Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most effective forms of psychotherapy for patients with anxiety and depression. The Uninversity of Texas at Austin performed a study on EMDR on survivors of sexual abuse. All 60 female participants showed progress from EMDR therapy, and the progress maintained 18 months after the fact. Studies also show the effectiveness of EMDR on patients with suicidal ideation, even via online sessions.
EMDR requires patients to directly address triggers. The therapist will guide the patient through eye movements to reduce the anxiety they feel due to the triggers.
